CocoSpace July turned out to be a lovely demonstration of the way these events work. Our initial, free flowing conversation about trust in the workplace, and our experiences of it, soon revealed a key difference in the room: experience.
One the one hand we had a member of a senior management team of an influential NGO, with many years’ experience managing teams and budgets through difficult times. On the other hand, we had a recent intern just seven months into a full-time role with a national health charity.
What if we explored trust further from these two perspectives? Without any particular expectations, we used some relaxed coaching to explore what trust meant to these two people. Watching the coaching from a distance, it was obvious that we could have continued for some time, and as it always does when you’re enjoying yourself, the clock hands twirled quickly round towards the end of the session.
What surprised us all, when we shared what had emerged from these perspectives, was how much they mirrored each other. One of our coaches remarked that “We should make a video of this!” and perhaps we will.
What’s truly exciting about these events is the way that unexpected - and useful - things arise from whatever the participants bring. The CocoSpace is a simple container in which we can discover which differences in the room might generate the most fruitful exchanges.
